Over the six-month period since its launch, www.jumbo.ae has witnessed a number of interesting trends in consumer preferences. Notably, 60% of total sales were paid online using debit and credit cards, as well as PayPal. This is in sharp contrast to the industry norm in the UAE. According to PayPal 80% of consumers prefer to pay using the less-efficient ‘Cash-on-Delivery’ option. Furthermore, Jumbo also witnessed a growing number of customers choosing their unique ‘Card-on-Delivery’ option, over cash, indicating a rising preference for cashless transactions.
“Customer preference for prepayment on our site reduces the chance of goods being returned or refused at the door. This consequently saves us the cost of reverse logistics and the opportunity loss of sale,” says Nadeem Khanzadah, Head of OmniChannel Retail at Jumbo Group.

Online payment simplified: 2-Click checkout, compared to competitors’ 7-Click checkout
One of the latest developments on www.jumbo.ae is a 2-Click checkout feature, which encourages the conversion of shopping carts to actual sales by reducing the time it takes to complete an online order. Khanzadah adds, “Jumbo’s 2-Click checkout format is another first in the UAE. Compare that with our competitors who often have a tedious checkout process, sometimes with as many as 7 clicks required. I cannot imagine a 7-click check-out being a user-friendly experience and this must surely result in abandoned shopping carts.”
Other subtle yet significant enhancements in functionality have also been introduced for consumers to access what they require in as few clicks as possible.
